Teaching Tip #6

October 12, 2011

Pick one of the study team strategies in the CPM handbook this week and use it everyday so that you and your students become use to using it. An easy strategy to implement is a classroom Huddle to disseminate information or check in for understanding. Another strategy that works well for students to share their thinking and see other ways of thinking is the Swap Meet. A Swap Meet can be done half way through or at the end of a problem or set of problems by sending two people from each team to a new team to share their work and then to return to their original team to share again. Get your students active and engaged!

  1. Remember to be specific about what each student should be doing during a specific strategy. Your students need these strategies modeled and need to know your exact expectations when they are learning them for the first time.
